One of many pencil sketches for Guilford Cathedral (St. Ursula's porch, St. John the Baptist). Set ranges from rough sketches dated as early as December 1929 to the detailed scale drawings of 1939 and 1940. Many are annotated by Eric Gill. Total collection includes 15 sheets of original drawings, 2 architecture eleven studies, printed article on the Guilford Cathedral Competition results (July 1932). Sketch of the east end of the cathedral that is set to 1/8" scale and numbered 202 by Eric Gill. Includes the following text: "The crucifixion symbolizes ' the eternal God is thy refuge and underneath are the everlasting arms.' Deut. 33-27 (Above the crucifixion is the Holy Spirit. Below the window are the Seven Gifts." Gill also wrote the name of the architect (Edward Mante) in the lower right hand corner.
