Letter from George Egerton to John Lane, December 20, 1895
Scope and Contents
Egerton had sent Lane a sketch that he found unsuitable for publication based on “some narrow standard of publishing” and she wished to discuss this further after Christmas. Egerton also mentions that she is in debt to Lane and others. She finally received the critique of Keynotes and Discords in “Die Nation” by Paul Nathan. She asks Lane if “it is the first part about the Spanish woman” he objects to and if so could/should it be eliminated, she then asks if it is the scene “between man and girl”. George Murray visited and advised her to travel elsewhere the climate is unsuitable for her “lung mischief," but she will not go anywhere until her writing is finished.
