Guilford Cathedral carvings, between 1929 and 1940
Scope and Contents
One of many pencil sketches for Guilford Cathedral (St. Ursula’s porch, St. John the Baptist). Set ranges from rough sketches dated as early as December 1929 to the detailed scale drawings of 1939 and 1940. Many are annotated by Eric Gill. Total collection includes 15 sheets of original drawings, 2 architecture eleven studies, printed article on the Guilford Cathedral Competition results (July 1932). This drawing depicts the Bishop’s arms over St. Ursula’s porch at ½” scale and is heightened with orange colored pencil.
