Biographical Note
Adrian Hope's sister Laura (1859-1936) spent much of her young life in Europe, being brought up by her material aunt Annie Cunninghame Graham. She met Greek scholar Thomas W. Allen (1862-1950) in 1888 and married him in 1894. He was a fellow at Queen's College, Oxford, where they lived with their only child Charlotte. Laura was a devout Christian Scientist, which unfortunately contributed to Charlotte's untimely death at the age of 23, when she did not seek medical attention for an illness.
